Wading for the Sun by jayalders Wading for the Sun by jayalders
The warm summer sun, waves peeling, the mesmerizing light reverberating through the ever-changing forms of the ocean and the sight of a beautiful girl wading towards the sea. For many of us, these things bring us passion, tranquility, maybe even envy.

Jay, I really like this painting of yours and I thank you for sharing it with us!  In my view it thoroughly captures the atmosphere, beauty and spirit of beaches and surfing.  (As it happens, those are all good things!)

Shame about the silly foreground, although you probably has a cheeky moment. The background work is amazing and beautiful and is lost in the caricature. Wonderful use of colour and texture in scenics. I haven't seen such a striking sea and sky interpretation in a quite a long time. Well done. Only spoiled by the body concept and the butt.

WTF is wrong with people that have never seen a stylized or a surreal painting before? That think that you have to be a pervert to enjoy a painting that features a big butt, wtf? These people need to travel and look around. Perhaps go to some beaches. Cheezus. :iconfacepalmplz:
Great job btw and congrats on the DD. I really like the browns and yellows playing out on her skin, gives it a very particular mood, and it's just amazing how you did the sky and sea. I've stared at it for about 10 minutes and it takes me to a different place and time.

Thank you for sharing your art. It's fantastic, and makes me feel happy to look at. I'd hang your paintings all over my place, and it takes a lot for me to want to do that with a gallery.

clearly all these 'dat ass' commentors have never seen 'surrealistic' paintings before. The style exaggerates elements of the human body on purpose. I think this is compositionally fantastic and I could easily see this at an art auction

Honestly, I clicked on this because DAT ASS. :icondatassplz:

Looking at the rest of the painting, I'm amazed. The textures you use are brilliant, and I love the mosaic stained-glass look of the water. The sun looks like something straight off a stained glass window. The lighting is perfect; you can almost feel the warmth of the sun and the cool water just looking at it.

I do have to say, though, the anatomy is VERY distracting. It's fine up until the butt, but that's just so very unrealistic that I can't get past it without forcing myself. I think perhaps a subtler line would have suited the subject better and would have drawn less attention away from the beautiful textures and colours of the rest of the painting.

I was going to make a comment about her funny-shaped ass and the protusions on her back, but it looks like everyone has covered that already for me.

Joke aside, this is a beautiful piece. Love the color palette and the abstract shapes.

People don't bother to look at the rest of your gallery before getting offended or somehow personally upset that this piece was awarded a DD. I bet some of these same people would have much less volatile reactions looking at the work of Picasso.

The award is well earned, by my reckoning. You capture in paint every word in your description. That ocean and sky are amazing. Congratulations. :aww:

It is, and it's apparent that you deal with the negativity rather well. I'm not sure if it's easier to handle the negativity on a personal project or the disappointment at seeing so much blind negativity on something one isn't personally invested in.

you know honestly I only clicked on this because I thought it was a joke. This "beautiful girl" is nothing to "envy" honestly as a female I cant help but be slightly offended to hear that anyone actually considers that attractive or "beautiful" which to me implies some degree of elegance.

Yes this is well painted, and I like it, but only as a joke about stereotypes.

kinda sad that people arent enjoying the painting because they so stuck up on the subject's ass.( which i might add isnt the only thing unrealistic in this piece)

You're one of the few on here, who "get's it" ...incredible how many people have no idea what surrealism is about or think I don't know that it's not realistic.

it goes to show that alot of people arent paying attention to the bigger picture( or the rest of your gallery) because if they have they wouldnt be making such comments and take the painting for what it is.

i chalk all the comments as immaturity of something that they are not understanding. if they have more exposure to this type of work outside of realism and anime(< which is very unrealistic) they would understand that its not all about how realistic it is but about the artist artistic vision and how they "see " something their subject ... and this is how you saw yours

Thank you most sincerely. Thankfully every artist has a different way of seeing the world and expressing visions and concepts. I personally prefer painting from my mind, whatever that entails. Sometimes it defies the laws of physics and sometimes people don't understand or choose to not be kind. It happens and it's ok. It makes the nice people like you stand out.

Wow are people really so offended by the human body that a large buttocks can ruin an entire painting for them? Get over it, everyone's got an ass just don't act like one.

It's not that they're large, just horrendously misshapen - like she's stuck two watermelons under her skin. I'll give it a pass because it's obviously a stylised painting, it just looks weird.

"it just looks weird"
So does the whole painting, it's what gives it its charm. You think that the sky and ocean looks like that in the real world? I would think I was tripping on acid if I saw that. The ass is the least of my concerns.
And you took the words right out of my mouth it's "obviously a stylised painting"
